Good to know
- Windows needs the HEIF extension to open HEIC, and most websites and browsers other than Safari cannot show it. Use JPG if you need to share it widely.
- Metadata such as the date and camera model is not copied into the HEIC file.
- The new format is lossy, so tiny pixel-level differences from the original are expected. Keep the original if you need exact pixels.

PNG
A PNG file stores images without losing any quality (lossless), and supports transparency. It's the default choice for screenshots, logos, icons, and any graphic that needs a see-through background.

HEIC
A HEIC file is the photo format iPhones and newer iPads use by default (also called HEIF). It keeps photo quality at about half the size of a JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and email services can't open it — which is why people convert it to JPG or PNG.
