What happens to your data
Kept
- Everything in the font: glyphs, kerning, ligatures and hinting
- A noticeably smaller file, usually around a third smaller than the WOFF
Good to know
- WOFF2 needs a modern browser. Keep the WOFF as a fallback if you must support very old ones.
- Converting a font does not change its license. Make sure the license allows web embedding or modification before you publish the result.
- Files up to 4 MB are supported, which covers most Latin, Cyrillic and Greek fonts but not large CJK fonts.

WOFF vs WOFF2
WOFF
A WOFF (Web Open Font Format) file is a compressed font format built specifically for websites — smaller than TTF/OTF, so pages load faster. It's the older of the two web font formats, but still widely supported.
Used in: Website @font-face · Older browser support · CSS web fonts
WOFF2
A WOFF2 file is the newer, more compressed version of WOFF — roughly 30% smaller on average, and supported by every modern browser today. It's the current best practice for web fonts.
Used in: Modern website @font-face · Google Fonts style delivery · Fast page-load optimization
