Good to know

  • The photo is developed automatically with the camera's white balance. There are no exposure, color or noise edits, so for fine control develop it in Lightroom or Camera Raw instead.
  • Support depends on the camera model: very new cameras can fail until they are supported. Files that were only renamed from another format are rejected.
  • A full-size photo as PNG is large, often tens of megabytes. For sharing, JPG or WebP is much smaller.
  • Metadata such as EXIF and the GPS location is not copied into the new file.

CRW

A CRW file is a RAW photo from a Canon (older models) camera. It holds the unprocessed sensor data, so it keeps maximum detail for editing, but most apps and websites can't open it. Converting it gives you a normal image, developed with the camera's own white balance.
