  • Saved as a lossless PNG, so no quality is lost in this step
  • Transparency is kept

Good to know

  • The photo is developed automatically with the camera's white balance. There are no exposure, color or noise edits, so for fine control develop it in Lightroom or Camera Raw instead.
  • Support depends on the camera model: very new cameras can fail until they are supported. Files that were only renamed from another format are rejected.
  • A full-size photo as PNG is large, often tens of megabytes. For sharing, JPG or WebP is much smaller.
  • Metadata such as EXIF and the GPS location is not copied into the new file.

ORF vs PNG

ORF

An ORF file is a RAW photo from an Olympus (OM System) camera. It holds the unprocessed sensor data, so it keeps maximum detail for editing, but most apps and websites can't open it. Converting it gives you a normal image, developed with the camera's own white balance.
