Good to know
- Only the still photo is converted. The short video of a Live Photo is not included.
- AVIF is not opened by every app yet (older Windows, some editors and printers). Use JPG or WebP if you need the widest support.
- Both formats are lossy, so every conversion costs a little quality. Keep your original file.
- Metadata such as EXIF and the GPS location is not copied into the new file.

HEIC vs AVIF
HEIC
A HEIC file is the photo format iPhones and newer iPads use by default (also called HEIF). It keeps photo quality at about half the size of a JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and email services can't open it — which is why people convert it to JPG or PNG.

AVIF
An AVIF file uses newer, more efficient compression than WebP, producing noticeably smaller files at the same visual quality. Major browsers now support it, and it's becoming the new default for performance-focused websites.
