Kept

  • The iPhone rotation is applied, so the photo comes out the right way up
  • The main photo is converted at full resolution
  • One PDF page that is exactly the size of the picture (not A4), with the image filling it
  • The image is embedded without extra compression, so nothing is lost

Good to know

  • Only the still photo is converted. The short video of a Live Photo is not included.
  • The PDF contains only the picture. Text in the image is not recognized, so it cannot be selected or searched (there is no OCR).
  • One image becomes one page. To combine several images in one PDF, use the PDF tools of your viewer after converting.
  • Metadata such as EXIF and the GPS location is not copied into the new file.

HEIC

A HEIC file is the photo format iPhones and newer iPads use by default (also called HEIF). It keeps photo quality at about half the size of a JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and email services can't open it — which is why people convert it to JPG or PNG.
