What happens to your data
Kept
- Everything in the font: glyphs, kerning, ligatures, hinting and the character map, because the tables are only re-packed
- A smaller file, typically 30–50% smaller than the TTF
- Works in every browser that supports web fonts
Good to know
- WOFF is the older web format. If you only target modern browsers, WOFF2 compresses further.
- Converting a font does not change its license. Make sure the license allows web embedding or modification before you publish the result.
- Files up to 4 MB are supported, which covers most Latin, Cyrillic and Greek fonts but not large CJK fonts.

TTF vs WOFF
TTF
A TTF (TrueType Font) file is one of the most common font formats — most operating systems and design tools can install and use it directly. It's usually where you start when installing a font manually.
Used in: Desktop font installs · Design software (Figma, Photoshop) · Legacy Windows apps
WOFF
A WOFF (Web Open Font Format) file is a compressed font format built specifically for websites — smaller than TTF/OTF, so pages load faster. It's the older of the two web font formats, but still widely supported.
Used in: Website @font-face · Older browser support · CSS web fonts
