02 / what you get

What happens to your data

Kept

  • Every line break is kept, and a blank line starts a new paragraph
  • Columns lined up with spaces or tabs keep their alignment in a monospaced block
  • UTF-8 and UTF-16 files are read directly, and old Windows code pages (including Cyrillic Windows-1251) are detected automatically
  • GitHub-style Markdown (tables use | pipes) for README files, notes apps, static sites and documentation

Good to know

  • Nothing in the text is turned into formatting. A # or * you typed stays exactly as you typed it, it does not become a heading or a list.
  • Files up to 300 MB are accepted.

TXT vs MD

TXT

A TXT file is plain, unformatted text — no fonts, no styling, no structure beyond line breaks. The simplest and most universal document format there is, readable by literally anything.

Used in: Plain notes · Logs · Universal compatibility

MD

A Markdown (MD) file is plain text with lightweight formatting syntax (#, **bold**, lists) — the standard for documentation, READMEs, and technical writing that needs to stay readable as raw text.

Used in: Documentation · READMEs · Technical writing · Static site generators
