- Folders (including empty ones) and file names in any language, such as Cyrillic or Polish, are kept
- File dates and Unix permissions are kept, so a script that was executable stays executable
- A plain TAR with nothing compressed, the format Linux and Unix tools, Docker and backup scripts expect
Good to know
- Password-protected ZIP files are not supported.
- TAR itself does not compress, so the file is about as large as everything inside it. For a smaller file choose TAR.GZ.
- The result is larger than your ZIP file, because the compression is removed.
- Links (shortcuts) and special files inside the archive are left out. Only real files and folders are converted.
- Archives up to 300 MB are accepted. An archive that unpacks to more than 500 MB or 20,000 files is refused.
