02 / what you get

What happens to your data

Kept

  • The vector graphic is rendered at 300 DPI, so a 320×210 SVG becomes about 1333×875 pixels, sharp enough for print
  • A transparent background stays transparent where the new format allows it
  • Saved as a JPG at quality 80, a good balance between sharpness and file size
  • Opens on every device, in every app and on every website

Good to know

  • External images and web fonts linked from the SVG are not loaded. Convert text to outlines (paths) before exporting so it displays correctly.
  • The result is one still picture. Animations in the SVG are not played.
  • JPG is lossy and has no transparency.
  • Transparent areas become white, because the new format has no transparency.
  • The new format is lossy, so tiny pixel-level differences from the original are expected. Keep the original if you need exact pixels.
  • Sharp lines and small text can show slight artifacts in this format. For crisp logos PNG is the better choice.

SVG vs JPG

SVG

An SVG file describes an image using mathematical shapes and paths instead of pixels, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size. It's the standard format for logos, icons, and illustrations that need to scale without blurring.

Used in: Logos & icons · Illustrations · Scalable UI graphics

JPG

A JPG (or JPEG) file is the most common photo format — it compresses images by slightly reducing quality to keep file sizes small. It's what your phone camera, most cameras, and the web use by default for photos.

Used in: Photos & camera exports · Web pages & email · Social media uploads
